About Me

2017-10-10 16.50.29 Welcome and thanks for visiting my About Me page. This will be my third edit since I started this journey and I have continue to grow and change as I not only get more experience but head toward my mid-50’s. (To learn a bit more about my journey I have kept my old About Me’s below.)

Over these past five years I have achieved more than I could have dreamed. I have completed triathlons, half marathons and many, many 5K’s. I have thrown in some long bike events too. My favorite events are still the triathlons. I love the variety the event offers. I get bored easily so having the choice to train different events keeps me motivated.

My life beyond training involves business consulting work with non-profits and volunteering. Both my children are now young adults finding their own way in the world. While you never stop being a parent the day-to-day attention is more in the form of texts and phone calls than preparing meals, laundry and taxi services. Our babies now are our two dogs; Maggie and Winston and while they are both nine years old they act like puppies and keep us on our toes.

As I age I am learning new and different ways to care for myself. I am not rebounding from long runs or events quite as quickly and nagging aches and pains are just part of life. I continue to be focused on my goal of doing triathlons for years to come and I know keeping my body as healthy and injury-free as possible is key to succeeding at this goal.

Thank you for joining me on my journey!

——————–

Thank you for visiting my newly updated “About Me” page. On an unexpected cold and snowy April day I realized that my “About Me” page was woefully outdated. Much has happened since I first started this blog and it seems appropriate to update you all on the “new” me.

I’ve saved my original “About Me” [copy below]. Saving it was perhaps more for me than for you. As I move forward I find it informative to check back on my journey.

When I initiated this blog I was a business owner, working full-time and supporting my two teenagers; one in college, the other in high school and we had one dog. Since those days we have sold our business, both children are in college (one is set to graduate in 6 weeks!) and we have two dogs!2016-02-21 19.19.45 I have been to graduate school and increased my involvement in many non-profits in my community.  I have successfully completed 10 triathlons, 6 half marathons, 2-60 mile bike ride/races and a multitude of 5 and 10K’s.

I have gone through numerous pairs of running shoes and only run in Asics. My workout wardrobe has exploded and far exceeds my business and casual attire. I have tinkered with my diet, vitamins, minerals, and fluid intakes. I have read a ton of blogs and training books. Some of these things I have shared on this blog; others I will chat about in coming posts.

I have had amazing training workouts and times when I thought I’d give it all up. Through it all I go back to my original motivation and am able to regroup and get back on track. I know that motivation is closely linked to realistic goals and the willpower to get it done each day. I continue to work at forgiving myself for poor training and more importantly I try to praise myself for goals I’ve met!

Thank you again for joining me on this journey. I hope you find these posts interesting, informative and most of all, motivating! I believe there is an athlete in all of us and good things come from moving our bodies every day!

Hi! Thanks for visiting my “About Me” page…daunting isn’t it? No? Well, ’cause I haven’t written it yet and even starting to think about writing an “About Me” page had me panicked. So I did what I do when I don’t know something I employed my favorite solution to most things (after water & Advil); I Googled “best ‘about me’ pages”. I learned enormous amounts about how much of a graphic designer I wasn’t and even less about how to make my content here amazing (stuff that would pull you in; make me sound intriguing and maybe even a little mysterious.)

Then I thought…heck, THAT is why I’m setting up this blog in the first place! To tell you all about me and what I love and what I do and how I find personal success in even the most dark and discouraging moments. Isn’t that what life is all about; especially when you get to 50? I know that some basic lessons have been learned and hopefully by now my the frontal lobe is fully developed (yes, read about this fascinating science it will help you survive raising teenagers!)  I’ve learned enough common sense to make good decisions (though bad ones have a way of creeping in), and perhaps, I’ve learned enough to forgive myself for a few of those bad decisions. Now I am ripe to learn new things!

I don’t promise a lot but I do promise to tell you stuff from my perspective, with a sense of humor, a dose of inquisitiveness and all told within my own life context. I just want to share and will embrace anyone who wants to come along for the ride!

The particulars? I am a born and bred New Englander (I’ve tried to leave four times and have always returned.) I went to college at University of Michigan and while I grew up in Connecticut I can boast that since leaving I have lived in seven States! Currently, I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and own a publishing company with my husband of 22 years. We have two teenage children; one in college and one in high school.

We have an amazing dog Maggie who is the love of our lives. She is so good and so good to us.

And lastly this is my story of what I hope is the second half of my life (banking on living a good 100 years at least!) The first half was quite the adventure and I expect the second half will be equally so…we shall see…hopefully together!

PS: All my life I have enjoyed all types of exercise but as a middle age woman I have finally achieved my goal of becoming an athlete. A lot of what I write about is that transformation. I was lucky to have parents who valued health and keeping fit but it took me the transitions of typical teenage rebellion, a few pregnancies and a number of failed attempts at athletic success to finally make it to the long dreamed of designation: Athlete. You will find a lot of those stories here too!
